2025 Summer Internships
The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission is accepting applications for summer internships.

Pay is $18/hour. Please be sure to read the all of the requirements, including the education requirements, for each position. A list of positions including the work schedules is listed below.
There will be a paid orientation day on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, and the regular work schedule will begin that week. Summer workers are expected to work for 10 weeks.

Available positions:
- Asset Management at the West Parish Filters water treatment plant in Westfield (M-F 7:00-3:30). Applicant must have completed at least one year of college in a related industry (engineering, business, construction management, environmental science, or related). The primary activity of this internship will be to review and document the plant's new Energy Dissipation Valve Structure including motors, pumps, electrical, structural, hoist/pulleys, HVAC, SCADA software, and safety systems to develop a digital twin of the facility in the Commission's asset management system. The intern will work primarily with the Maintenance Coordinator and also with engineers, water operations managers, treatment plant operators, and other staff at the water treatment plant.
- Water Resources at the West Parish Filters water treatment plant in Westfield and Borden Brook Reservoir (M-Th 7:30-3:30). Applicant must have experience working outside. Applicant must be a high school graduate. Ability to identify various types of vegetation is preferred as is experience as is experience using GIS technology. This internship will provide a comprehensive introduction to source water protection and will include activities such as parcel monitoring and boundary line maintenance, invasive species documentation and removal, tree girdling and grape removal projects, and monitoring culverts and infrastructure in the watershed. This is primarily an outdoor position and the intern must be willing and able to work outdoors in all types of weather and over a variety of types of terrain.
