WORK BASED LEARNING PROGRAM

Seeking motivated, hard-working high school 10th, 11th & 12th graders in Springfield looking to explore career options, gain hands-on experience, improve occupational and technical skills, and serve their community at the region’s largest water utility.

EXPLORE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES ACROSS THE COMMISSION

Pipeline Interns will rotate through Commission departments/locations. Departments include:

  • Water & Wastewater Operations
  • Laboratory Services & Water Quality
  • Watershed & Environmental Protection
  • Engineering
  • Information Technology & Cybersecurity

Pipeline Interns will engage in the follow work-based learning activities

  • Job-shadowing
  • Hands-on learning
  • Safety Training
  • Mentorship
  • Pipeline Cohort Team Building
  • Water Operator Training Course
  • Utility visits and exposure to variety of industry related careers

Work based learning activities will take place both outdoors and indoors in a variety of conditions.  Walking/being on feet for several hours may be required, including for site visits and tours.  Safety gear, including safety boots, hard hat, and vest to be provided.

The Pipeline Program is a paid summer internship

  • Monday – Thursday
  • June 30, 2025 - August 14, 2025
  • 7:00am – 3:30pm
  • JJSOC Commission Operations Center, 71 Colton Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Interns will report to the JJSOC Operations Center and transportation to other Commission locations will be provided.  Arriving on time by 7:00am important for transportation to other locations.
  • Pay is $15/hour (32 Hours per week)

 DETAILS

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Springfield high school students in 10th, 11th & 12th grade  
  • Successful applicants will be required to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and CORI check before they begin employment.
